Umstead 100 mile endurance run

I am writing this in the hotel lobby in Raleigh --near the Umstead endurance run. I am so relieved that this 100 mile race is over and i finished in 24:57 (and cried also when finished -they gave me my choice of belt buckle or necklace -I took the necklace)) --In a rain-soaked event, I ran with Frank for 4 loops and he developed a stress fracture and hemotoma and had to drop at 75 -but he did run 77, the second longest run he's done. and got credit for the 50. When I left him to go get help, as he was struggling in pain, I hooked up with a pacer and did 2 long laps --the hardest thing I did was get out for that last lap.
I did not want to leave Frank but knew that he should stop and it would be compromising to his health to continue anymore. It was pouring rain --we put one foot in front of another (miles 85-93 were my low point -it was not easy to keep going) and I was able to run the last 4 miles and felt great --waited for meredith to finish, also Roger and 'the professor' -sad that Frank is injured -well, hopefully we'll do it next year. In the hotel, I am hearing lots of stories of people who dropped out because of the rain so I am proud of myself for perservering -every since VT 100 last year have wanted to finish one. It was the most difficult thing I've ever done! but i trained hard for it, and it kicked in the last couple miles ...I took tons of photos and will post them tommorrow. Right now am going to lunch with anthony, meredith and eddie...no sleep but ahot bath where I did doze off. feel better Frank!

Great job. God, I know I said this before about running a marathon (and now I love them) but I can't imagine running that long!!!
Good job, sucks that the weather was so bad.

Thanks Pete, Myriam, and Meredith!! Having never gone over 75 miles, I didn't know what to expect --so I was grateful that I held up and was moving forward vertically,as they say! and I ran the last 4 miles and felt great! I am writing up the race now. Anthony, thanks for your support --it was great to see you and Eddie and all of the others at the aid station and on the course -good luck tapering this week for the 50!!!
